Bible giveaway

We have 12 Bibles from the Lost & Found that have no names in them and cannot be tracked back to their owners. So we would like to match them up with new owners. If you have an immediate need of a Bible to give to someone, please come visit the church office and ask at reception desk about selecting one of these Bibles. We have various versions and age ranges (one or two children's, one boy, one sports, etc) available.

Any leftover Bibles will be given to the Welcome Ministry to distribute.

Message from our Elder Chairman

On May 29, the Board of Governing Elders and the Pastor/Elder Fellowship made two very important decisions.

The first decision was to accept our Search Team’s recommendation on a position profile for our pastoral staff vacancy, and that profile was for a Preaching and Teaching pastor. This person’s primary responsibility will be in the pulpit, preaching and teaching the Word of God, but he will not be the Senior Pastor.

That led to the second important milestone we reached last week, which was the appointment of Mark Tuggle the senior pastoral leader of Pulpit Rock Church. Mark has been filling the role of pastoral leader of the church in the interim since Armin Sommer’s departure, and he has done an excellent job. Now we can drop the word “interim” from Mark’s title, and as of June 5, we officially gave him the title Senior Pastor.

The Pastor/Elder fellowship has had extended discussion regarding the title “Senior Pastor,” because we are intentionally dividing the traditional functions of a Senior Pastor into two positions: primary leader and primary teacher. While Mark will preach periodically, his primary role is that of pastoral leader – leading the church, casting vision, and making sure that we fulfill our mission. The person who fills our Preaching Pastor position will assume the role of primary teacher on Sundays, and will report to Mark.

This is obviously a very important step for Pulpit Rock Church and for Mark, and it is something for which God has been preparing Mark for the many years. We appreciate your continued prayers, particularly as we now seek the man God has been preparing to become our new Preaching Pastor.

-- Jay Butler, Elder Board Chairman

Our Family's Feedback

You talked. We listened.

Thank you to those who attended our last Family Meeting. We heard a lot and are still processing it but here are a few things that we clearly heard.

1. Communication is critically important.
You liked having the family meeting and you want to ensure we continue to step up our two-way communication. To that end, we will be scheduling a family meal and meeting at least quarterly, but we had so much fun at the last one that we're going to have another one on April 29.

In addition, we're working on more ways to enhance our electronic communications to facilitate dialogue, not just sending information. We want to continue to invite feedback, thoughts and ideas to the pastors and elders through conversations and emails.

2. Greater awareness of and access to the elders and pastors.
To help facilitate that, we'll have a pastor or elder regularly available after services so you can get to know us a little better.

3. Prayer.
You also said that you all are praying, but we all need to be praying more. We couldn't agree more, and we're very excited about a new churchwide prayer initiative that Jack Rants, our Community Care Pastor is working on.

"When a Leader Falls"

We have received numerous requests and questions regarding the website availability of Pastor Armin's impromptu message from Nov. 4/5 on the situation with New Life Church's Pastor Ted Haggard.

Please note that we have had some difficulty getting this message online, but that it is available now. Our Technical Arts Director and I spoke briefly about how it seems someone didn't want that message to get out into the world. It's a good one, friends. Be sure to check out the Pulpit Rock Media Player page to stream the audio.
