Missions Update: March 2008

At our IMT Meeting on March 4, we heard from Aaron and Stephanie Shalosky, who work with Campus Crusade's student ministries on five southern Colorado university campuses. They attend PRC. This fall the director left and Aaron was asked to take his place. The campus ministries also have an international focus with partnerships in Serbia and Southern Africa. Groups of students have been going to Serbia for five years for summer outreach programs. Students can also go for one year or longer to help the three full-time couples who are there.

Missions Update: February 2008

Here is the latest from our February 5 International Ministries Team Meeting:

Brian Ramsey – Russia
Brian is a junior at Colorado School of Mines and involved with the Campus Crusade ministry there. He went to Russia last summer with a group of Campus Crusade students for six and a half weeks to Krasnodar, a city of 700,000 people located on the Black Sea. The twenty students went to help ten Campus Crusade staff who are discipling some young Russian believers and training them to reach out to the students at the university there. During their time in Russia they took a Russian language class that included outings to introduce them to the culture as well.

Ultimate Frisbee turned out to be a great way to meet a lot of students. Those who wanted to work on their English were invited to a nearby campground in the mountains for a few days. Each team member was assigned a student to work with one on one. There were also opportunities to share their testimonies during a hike and around the campfire at night.

Brian learned what faith is like in another country and the importance of discipling new believers so that they will continue in their faith. He would like to go back to Russia long term.

Missions Update: November 2007

Here if the latest from the International Ministry Team’s November 6 meeting.

Steve Aldrich gave us a sneak preview of the PRC Team’s time in North Africa. On Sunday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. the rest of the team shared their experiences. Steve fell in love with North Africa. The people are so hospitable.

The team went to teach English as a foreign language which is done mostly through conversational sessions. One place they taught was at a YWAM school in a small tourist town. They also taught at a French school arranged for by the General Director of the Association of Christian Churches in North Africa. There are twenty churches in this association made up of French-speaking expatriates. They are very eager for native English speakers to teach at their school. PRC is planning to send another team there in April 2008 to work with their English teachers.

IMT Update: September 07

Here is the latest from PRC’ers involved around the world from our September 11, 2007 IMT Meeting.

Kristin Aldrich – OCI Missions Trip to Africa
She co-led a group for OCI of 12 students (mostly college-age) to South Africa and Swaziland this summer for six and a half weeks. It was hard to see so many that are infected with AIDS and dying. Their team did some AIDS education. They also worked in an orphanage, cleaned schools, and held some youth nights where forty kids accepted Christ. Pray for the people ministering there and for Kristin, that she will remember God’s faithfulness and that she will be selfless with the 5th grade kids she teaches.

Eric Mason – Youth Missions Trip to Juarez, Mexico
Eighteen people went on this 6th trip to Mexico--5 adults and 14 students ranging from 6th grade to high school seniors. Besides building the house, they took a ton of toys provided by PRC’s Childrens Ministries to the children in an orphanage. Another outreach was inviting families in the colonia where they built the house to a meal. Haley, one of the students who went, enjoyed learning to love the Mexican kids.

Missions Update: August 2007

Here is the latest from our August 7 IMT meeting.

Krishana Kraft worked with Focus on the Family on their Brio Magazine staff and was involved with youth ministry at Pulpit Rock Church for four years before going to Austria for training with YWAM last year. Part of their training was spending two weeks in Bosnia where they had the opportunity to pass out Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. They also taught English classes to elementary age kids at a community center. After their time in Bosnia they went to Serbia for seven weeks to work with a church youth group. This group had just gotten a ping pong table so Krishana's group helped them start a game night to reach out to other young people. Suza was a nonbeliever that Krishana was drawn to and developed a relationship with. She accepted Christ at a youth conference.

Missions Update: July 2007

Here is the latest from our July 10, 2007 International Ministries Team (IMT) Meeting.

Becky Neumann - Zambia
Becky has been with The Navigators for five years at the University of Nebraska. Becky, along with a graduate student, led a team of nine other students to Zambia where they helped Navigator staff in their ministry at the University. The team also visited some schools to help feed the children and went to a national Navigator conference. They visited a village and helped with a church service in the village where a couple of girls accepted the Lord.

At the University of Nebraska, Becky works with sorority girls because they are the leaders. Next year there will be three new staff girls, one of whom Becky will be training and discipling.

Danny Neumann - Malawi
Danny has been working with students at the African Bible College for a year. The African Bible College provides a good education for African students, which helps them get jobs. Of the 200 students, 50-75% are believers. Danny works with a Navigator team of 6 native Malawans and 2 expatriots.

There is a secondary school that is a 15 minute walk from the college where he would like to start a discipleship group next year. Africans have trouble supporting themselves when they go on staff so Danny will also be working on helping to develop some micro business enterprises. One viable business makes floor and roofing tiles and has 25-30 employees. Danny is discipling a couple of guys who work there with the hope that they will start businesses of their own and begin discipling relationships as well.

Student Mexico Mission Team Update

Our Student Mexico Mission Team just left the parking lot after a prayer circle led by Community Care Pastor Jack Rants and Women's Ministry Director Diane Stermer.

Kevin Matthews and Eric Mason are driving them down to Capitan, New Mexico for Phase I of the journey. (Pray for the riders in the vehicle!) They have about 7-1/2 hours of driving, stopping along the way for a snack lunch and bathroom breaks. Once they get to New Mexico, they will have an authentic Mexican Meal and a briefing of what to expect on the 10-day journey.

Keep them in your prayers! We will post updates on the journey as we hear from the team.

Missions Update: June

Here is the latest from PRC’ers involved around the world from our June 5 IMT Meeting.

Don Volle – Resources Exchange International (REI)
REI’s mission is to encourage, equip and empower people in developing nations who can strengthen the strategic sectors of their countries. Don’s role is supporting and assisting leaders on the field and their teams to be successful.

REI focuses on poorer nations that are closed or restricted. They identify a need in a strategic sector like agriculture, education, or micro business enterprises and make a contribution in that area. Their people bring a combination of development to equip with skills those in the countries they serve but also seek to give them hope. They are involved in two countries in Central Asia and one in Southeast Asia.

Steve and Nancy Brown – SIM in Niger
Steve is a water specialist. Nancy is a nurse. They have been working with the Fulani in Niger for the past ten years. Niger is the poorest country in Africa with 11 million people and only 70,000 jobs. The literacy rate is less than 1%. It is largely Muslim but despite that they are very open to the gospel. This term Steve was able to install seven wells in three villages.

During the 2005 famine Steve helped distribute food to remote villages which was a strong witness. He also helped build a grain bank to store grain when it is plentiful for distribution in times of need. Another project was expanding a youth center and redoing the basketball court which attracts a lot of young people.

Nancy has been home schooling the boys as well as giving some medical care and medicines to the Fulani. Now that the boys are 14 and 16 they will switch to correspondence courses. With less home schooling to do, Nancy will have more time for ministry and needs wisdom to know where to put her efforts. Pray for the adjustments as they return to Niger the end of July after having been in the States since last December.

Missions Update: May Meeting

Here’s the latest from PRC’ers involved around the world from our May 1 IMT Meeting.

Lindsey Ferris (OCI) gave a presentation on opportunities to provide hospitality/housing for missionaries here for training.

Abou and Um Fouad gave a presentation on their upcoming work in Europe and North Africa. They have been invited by a NA national leader to start a trade school – initially in the hospitality field, with potential expansion. At the same time, a European country has asked them to revitalize the hotel/restaurant industry to improve tourism. Revenue from the latter project will help subsidize the former; many who have lost jobs, family connections, and resources will be helped. Um hopes to eventually work with women to help start small businesses in the arts, in addition to supporting Abou in his work.

Prayer is needed for their children (ages 23 and 19) who are staying in the U.S. for godly decisions regarding their futures, perseverance, and a close walk with God; and that the national leader would become a believer.

Upcoming events:

  • IMT Fall Retreat the last weekend in September

  • 2008 short term trips to Boquillas over the spring break

  • Missions Pastor Steve Aldrich will go to India in March

  • India Children’s Choir may visit us again

  • Morocco – ESL with GEM

Pastor Steve Aldrich’s Trip to the Ukraine
Steve also went to L’viv, Ukraine to visit PRC missionaries Tim and Heather Miller. Tim asked Steve to speak to a group of believers that he is training. Tim has seen a lot of fruit in his ministry. He would like to start a baseball ministry but needs bats and gloves.

Future Trips

Now they help run a 60,000 acre ranch there with 1500 head of cattle that employs 60 nationals who live there with their families (about 300 people altogether). Missions Update

Here’s the latest from our International Ministries Team (IMT):

The IMT Fair will be January 27/28 and February 3/4 in The Gathering Place.

We are looking forward to having the India Children’s Choir in the January 28 church services. They are sponsored by Bibles for the World. Dr. Pudaite, the founder, is from the Hmar tribal people in Northeast India. He came to faith as a young boy. The Hmar people are 90% evangelical much like the Pham tribe that the Mintons work with. After Dr. Pudaite and his wife came to the States they founded Bibles for the World in 1959 with the goal - “For Every House a Bible“.

Kathy Lannon with Global Mapping challenged us to learn how to reach out to Muslims since there are 6 million of them in the US. One third of these are US citizens who have converted. The “Encountering the World of Islam” class will take place at First Presbyerian Chuch downtown from January 22 to April 16 from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $289. The first night is free if you want to check it out.

Missions Pastor Steve Aldrich goes to Kiev February 16 and will visit PRC missionaries Tim and Heather Miller while he is there. The local church recently ordained Tim Miller, which is a huge blessing and honor for him.
