By Diane Stermer
Women's Ministry Director | 719-598-6767 x. 113

I have been giving some thought to relationships. Most of my relationships evolve around three things: family, friends, and ministry. I am recognizing a common thread in all three--relationships are fragile, and they take an investment of time. They are susceptible to tensions generated by life circumstances and differences in personalities.

Technological conveniences provided through text messaging and email, certainly add a different dimension to relationships. We invest our time and energy without ever having a face-to-face conversation. People may read our words, but they may never really know us or understand us.

I believe relationships are a gift from God, something to be cherished and nurtured. I know relationships take time, and energy, and certainly there are times of disappointment, but I am convinced the positives far outweigh the negatives.

When we pursue relationships with the intention of focusing on the other person, instead of ourselves, we experience relationships as God intended it to be.

The most important relationship to pursue and invest in is our relationship with God. That particular bond will influence and have huge impact on every interaction we make. If we are willing to make our connection with God the number one priority in our lives, we will make our friendships more purposeful, for we will have a different perspective on how and why we interact with the people in our lives.

If you have questions regarding your relationship with God, I would enjoy the opportunity to speak with you. Just give me a call. I always enjoy getting together over a good cup of coffee!

Awana Director, Caitlin Garrett, told us about two brothers from the neighborhood who came to AWANA. The older brother told her, “Mom said he’s not allowed to come to church, he’s too bad.” The little one promised he would be good if he could just stay. He’s a regular now.

Last Wednesday, one of our neighborhood TNT boys, made a decision to follow Christ. We love this neighborhood outreach!

At our IMT Meeting on March 4, we heard from Aaron and Stephanie Shalosky, who work with Campus Crusade's student ministries on five southern Colorado university campuses. They attend PRC. This fall the director left and Aaron was asked to take his place. The campus ministries also have an international focus with partnerships in Serbia and Southern Africa. Groups of students have been going to Serbia for five years for summer outreach programs. Students can also go for one year or longer to help the three full-time couples who are there.

The South Africa partnership at the University of Pretoria is new with a group of students going for the first time this summer. Besides working at the University, they will be partnering with Beam Africa, a local mission that builds community centers to train Africans in job skills and feed children.

Another way we might partner with them is through a new project called Angel Food. Through this organization those in need can order food at deep discounts. Once it is delivered, the students help distribute it. If anyone is interested in helping with that, contact Aaron.

Prayer Requests: - Aaron and Stephanie will travel soon to Serbia to encourage the staff. Pray for safety in the light of the recent burning of the U.S. Embassy.
- For new believers on the campuses where they are working.
- Expanding of the local team.
- Development of alumni -staying connected with them to help them live for God after graduation.
- $200 additional monthly support. Aaron, as director, is also responsible for raising support for the Campus Crusade ministry beyond their personal support.

Upcoming Events
March 16 - Commissioning of the Boquillas team.

A note from our new Preschool Director:

I was born in Longmont, CO and lived there until I was six. My family then moved to Medical Lake, WA where I lived until I graduated from high school. I chose to go to Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. I earned my degree at Wheaton in Physical Education with a K-12 teaching certificate. I taught elementary PE for 5 years after graduating.

"I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 9. My swimming turned into coaching competitive swimming just after college. I have coached my own team and/or been an assistant for 13 years now. I currently coach for the Air Force Academy Falcons.

"My husband Josh and I have been married for seven years and we have three boys--Josiah, age 6; Noah, age 3; and Jeremiah, age 1. We have only been in the Springs for two years. We have family in Colorado that we wanted to live closer to, and my husband found an IT position at Focus on the Family, so we packed up and left the Midwest.

"We have been at Pulpit Rock since the Sunday that we drove into town and were so impressed with the children's program that we decided to stay.

"I am excited to be a part of the staff that is so crucial to the spiritual development of our little children. I believe God has been preparing my heart for this opportunity for some time now, and has also allowed us to move, this last month to a house that is less than 5 minutes from church."

Here is the latest from our February 5 International Ministries Team Meeting:

Brian Ramsey – Russia
Brian is a junior at Colorado School of Mines and involved with the Campus Crusade ministry there. He went to Russia last summer with a group of Campus Crusade students for six and a half weeks to Krasnodar, a city of 700,000 people located on the Black Sea. The twenty students went to help ten Campus Crusade staff who are discipling some young Russian believers and training them to reach out to the students at the university there. During their time in Russia they took a Russian language class that included outings to introduce them to the culture as well.

Ultimate Frisbee turned out to be a great way to meet a lot of students. Those who wanted to work on their English were invited to a nearby campground in the mountains for a few days. Each team member was assigned a student to work with one on one. There were also opportunities to share their testimonies during a hike and around the campfire at night.

Brian learned what faith is like in another country and the importance of discipling new believers so that they will continue in their faith. He would like to go back to Russia long term.

Upcoming Events and Prayer Needs

IMT Fair - February 17 and 24 will be in The Gathering Place with displays showing various opportunities to get involved in missions. You can also pick up a copy of the new IMT Missionary Prayer Directory. Come take a look!

The Boquillas Team (27 people) going to Boquillas, Mexico over spring break still needs to raise lots of money for their air fare because of higher prices for their plane tickets than they first thought.

The Angola Team of Darrell, Paul, and Timothy Hockersmith, Bob Vasquez, Charlie King and his grandson will be leaving February 7 for Angola returning February 23. Darrell and Paul will consult with church leaders there about their needs. Pray for wisdom and safety.

Here if the latest from the International Ministry Team’s November 6 meeting.

Steve Aldrich gave us a sneak preview of the PRC Team’s time in North Africa. On Sunday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. the rest of the team shared their experiences. Steve fell in love with North Africa. The people are so hospitable.

The team went to teach English as a foreign language which is done mostly through conversational sessions. One place they taught was at a YWAM school in a small tourist town. They also taught at a French school arranged for by the General Director of the Association of Christian Churches in North Africa. There are twenty churches in this association made up of French-speaking expatriates. They are very eager for native English speakers to teach at their school. PRC is planning to send another team there in April 2008 to work with their English teachers.
