Missions Update: February 2008
Here is the latest from our February 5 International Ministries Team Meeting:
Brian Ramsey – Russia
Brian is a junior at Colorado School of Mines and involved with the Campus Crusade ministry there. He went to Russia last summer with a group of Campus Crusade students for six and a half weeks to Krasnodar, a city of 700,000 people located on the Black Sea. The twenty students went to help ten Campus Crusade staff who are discipling some young Russian believers and training them to reach out to the students at the university there. During their time in Russia they took a Russian language class that included outings to introduce them to the culture as well.
Ultimate Frisbee turned out to be a great way to meet a lot of students. Those who wanted to work on their English were invited to a nearby campground in the mountains for a few days. Each team member was assigned a student to work with one on one. There were also opportunities to share their testimonies during a hike and around the campfire at night.
Brian learned what faith is like in another country and the importance of discipling new believers so that they will continue in their faith. He would like to go back to Russia long term.
Upcoming Events and Prayer Needs
IMT Fair - February 17 and 24 will be in The Gathering Place with displays showing various opportunities to get involved in missions. You can also pick up a copy of the new IMT Missionary Prayer Directory. Come take a look!
The Boquillas Team (27 people) going to Boquillas, Mexico over spring break still needs to raise lots of money for their air fare because of higher prices for their plane tickets than they first thought.
The Angola Team of Darrell, Paul, and Timothy Hockersmith, Bob Vasquez, Charlie King and his grandson will be leaving February 7 for Angola returning February 23. Darrell and Paul will consult with church leaders there about their needs. Pray for wisdom and safety.
