Missions Update: February
Here's the latest from PRC'ers involved around the world from our February 6 IMT Meeting.
Sterling and Donna Foster – SIM in Angola
Darrel and Barbara Hockersmith worked with Sterling’s dad and mom in Angola so knew him as he was growing up. Sterling met and married Donna at North Carolina University. They went to Africa in 1992. Now they help run a 60,000 acre ranch there with 1500 head of cattle that employs 60 nationals who live there with their families (about 300 people altogether). Training is provided through apprenticeships in animal husbandry, carpentry, crop cultivation, and more. They are in desperate need of more staff.
Earl Minton – Trip to Nagaland, India
Earl got involved in India through an Indian student when they lived in Illinois who was the first one from the Phom tribe to get an education. When he went back to India he established a seminary to train others. In 1990 he asked Earl to come and teach. Earl has made several trips since then. His latest trip was Dec. 26 to Jan. 20. Earl has been helping raise money to build a high school and was privileged to unveil the corner stone. He was honored to see that his name was on it. Earl is concerned that when the young people graduate from high school and leave the villages for the city for more education or jobs, they are not prepared spiritually to stand firm in their faith. He would like to see Naga missionaries go throughout Asia.
India Children’s Choir
The children left Friday, Jan. 25, to begin their tour all over the States. They need our prayer in their travels and continued adjustments.
Opportunities Coming Up
GEM Trip to Morocco – There will be a team going in October to teach English to adults. Jay Butler and Steve are going. If anyone else is interested, contact either of them.
Boquillas Trip – The team will be going to Boquillas March 24-31. We will have a commissioning before they leave. This year the older teens are organizing a concert of Mexican Christian artists to reach out to older teens in Boquillas and neighboring villages as well. Jim McGee will do an assessment survey to determine the needs of the community.
Bibles for the World Trip to India – Dr. Pudaite, who sponsors the India Children’s Choir has asked PRC to take a team to India in March, 2008 for some leadership training of their pastors.
