March 2- The Basket: The Princess Finds Moses

Big Idea: Moses’ family kept baby Moses alive by hiding him in a basket.

Story Scripture: Exodus 1:8—2:10

Bible Verse: “Moses became the princess’ son.” Exodus 2:10

At Home Ideas:

Play Dough Baskets
Show your child how to make play dough ropes. Then have them coil the ropes to form a basket. Talk about what Moses’ mother used to make the basket in which Moses floated.

Ride in the Basket
Let your child sit in a large laundry basket and push them around the room, or let your kids take turns pushing each other in the basket. Ask them what they think it would feel like to be in a basket in the river.

February24-The Blessing: Jacob’s Family Grows in Egypt

Big Idea: Jacob’s family grew larger and enjoyed God’s blessing while living in Egypt.

Story Scripture: Genesis 45:21—49:33

Bible Verse: “God blessed Jacob’s whole family in Egypt.” Genesis 47:27

At Home Ideas:

Hoop Thanks
You will need several hula-hoops or circles drawn on the sidewalk or driveway, etc.
Place the hula-hoops in a line on the floor, touching each other. Have your child line up at one end and hop into each hoop, saying a way God has blessed them for each hoop (circle).

February 17 – The Reunion: Joseph Welcomes His Brothers

Big Idea: Joseph was happy that God reunited him with his brothers.

Story Scripture: Genesis 42-45

Bible Verse: “Joseph said, ‘I am your brother.’” Genesis 45:4

At Home Ideas:

Talk and Snack
Serve a snack that contains a variety of grains such as granola or trail mix. Remind your child that Joseph sold grain to all the hungry people.
Why did people need to buy grain from Joseph?
Who came from far away to buy grain?
Why did Joseph test his brothers?
Were Joseph’s brothers still mean?

February 10 – The Dream: Joseph Becomes Egypt’s Leader

Big Idea: God helped Joseph understand Pharaoh’s dream.

Story Scripture: Genesis 40-41

Bible Verse: “Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of everything.” Genesis 41:40

At Home Ideas:

All Kinds of Grains
You will need: different types of grains, such as rice, wheat, dried corn, and oats, pictures of silos drawn on paper, glue sticks

Draw a simple shape of a silo on paper. Let your child examine the different types of grains. Give your child the silo paper and explain that silos are places to store grain. Set out the different types of grain and let your child glue them onto the silos. Tell them that Joseph had the people store up all kinds of grains.

February 3 – The Slave: Joseph Helps Potiphar

Big Idea: Joseph was successful in everything he did because God helped him.

Story Scripture: Genesis 39:1-6

Bible Verse: “The Lord was with Joseph and blessed everything he did.” Genesis 39:3

At Home Ideas:

What Can You Do?
Play a simple game of charades with your child. Have them take turns acting out a job they could do their best on at home and “guess” at what they’re doing. You could suggest: taking out the trash, making the bed, raking leaves, sweeping the floor, folding laundry, wiping off the table or watering plants. Talk about the jobs Joseph did his best at.
