Big Idea: Jacob’s dishonesty ruined his family relationships.

Talk and Snack
Serve fruit leather like Jacob’s smooth arms and cotton candy like Esau’s hairy arms. Talk about the Bible story.

What did Jacob do to pretend to be Esau?
What happened when Esau came to Isaac?

December 16 – The Twins: Esau Trades His Birthright

Big Idea: Esau thought that his food was more important than his future inheritance.

Story Scripture: Genesis 25:19-34

Bible Verse: “Esau didn’t care about God’s special plans for him.” ~ Genesis 25:34b

At Home Ideas:

Soup
You will need: ingredients for soup, large pot, spoons
Cut the various vegetables and other ingredients for soup into small pieces and place in individual containers. Let your child add the ingredients to the pot. Add water, stir and cook. Remind your child that Esau thought a bowl of soup was more important than God’s plans for him.

December 9 - The Bride: Isaac Marries Rebekah

Big Idea: God planned for Isaac and Rebekah to be married.

Story Scripture: Genesis 24

Bible Verse: “Isaac married Rebekah and he loved her.” ~ Genesis 24:67

At Home Ideas:

Rebekah’s Jewelry
You will need: tube-shaped colored pasta (or colored round cereal) and yarn
Cut a piece of yarn long enough for your child to make a necklace. To make colored pasta—use a mixture of food coloring and rubbing alcohol and mix the pasta into it. The alcohol should evaporate within an hour. Let your child string pasta (or cereal) onto their yarn piece to make a necklace. Remind your child that the servant gave Rebekah a great deal of jewelry.

Picture Time
You will need: old cameras, play cameras or digital cameras
Talk about how one way we celebrate weddings is to take pictures of the bride and groom and all the people at the wedding. Let your child pretend to be taking pictures at a wedding.

December 2 - The Baby: Isaac is Born

Big Idea: God gave Abraham and Sarah a special baby named Isaac.

Story Scripture: Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7

Bible Verse: “Sarah and Abraham had baby Isaac, just as God had promised.” ~ Genesis 21:2

At Home Ideas:

Baby Grows
Gather pictures of your child as an infant and getting progressively older to share with them. You may also want to use their Baby Book or birth certificate to help show them how they’ve grown and that they have been known and loved since before birth by you and God.
