Summer Schedule

Dear Parents,

Once again this summer we will be showing a video series during the regularly scheduled story time. We will be using the “Boz, The Green Bear Next Door” series. Each video has a biblical story to enhance the video. We will still have a craft, worship time and provide a snack. We hope this will help facilitate vacation time for everyone.

There will be a Take-Home paper or equivalent every Sunday for you to use at home during the week with your child. You may still access the snack schedule online.

May 27—We Tell Others About Jesus

Building on Last Week: Your children enjoy remembering the Bible stories of going and telling of Jesus, our Saviour.

Story Scripture: Review of Lessons 9-12

Bible Verse: “Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 4:15

At Home Ideas:

Explore God’s World Game

Here’s a game that involves 4 players. (If you want to provide for 8 players, double the materials suggested below or let the kids play 2 per team.)

Preparation: You will need four paper plates showing one of these four natural habitats: a tree, a pond, a field, and an ocean. If you draw the pictures, distinguish a pond from an ocean by drawing trees around the pond and sea shells near the ocean.

If you want, you may find four small pictures in magazines, etc. to match each habitat. Mark off each plate into four pie-shaped sections and glue one picture in each section. Cover the plates with adhesive-backed vinyl to make sturdy game pieces.

You will also need 16 picture cards. Your children can help make these. Find 16 pictures of animals such as those suggested below. As you can see, you need to have animals to match each habitat you have on the plate.
A tree is the habitat of raccoons, squirrels, robins, or woodpeckers. A pond is the habitat of turtles, frogs, worms, and small fish. A field is the habitat of mice, butterflies, caterpillars, deer and rabbits. The ocean is the habitat of large fish, crustaceans, stingrays, whales, and dolphins.

Have the children glue the pictures on the cards. You may also want to cover the cards with protective vinyl.

Playing: Four players may each pick a paper plate. Place the 16 picture cards facedown on the table. One child at a time picks a card. If the animal card fits one of the habitats on their plate, the child places it on their habitat. If not, the child returns the card to the pile facedown. Play until all the children get four cards on their plates. Stress God’s love and care in creating wonderful homes that are just right for the animals and for us.

May 20 – Lydia Hears Paul Tell About Jesus

Building on Last Week: Whether to a prison warden or a purple-cloth dealer, Paul faithfully proclaimed the Gospel to all he met.

Story Scripture: Acts 16: 12-15

Bible Verse: “Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 4:15

At Home Ideas:

Purple
This snack will introduce Lydia. Give your child a purple fruit roll-up. Lydia was a well-respected businesswoman in Philippi who bought and sold expensive purple cloth.

“Paul Says”
Have your child(ren) line up in front of you and play along just like in “Simon Says”. If they don’t hear “Paul Says” first then they shouldn’t do the action. If they do, they must sit down for one turn. Some examples of actions are: “Paul says to love Jesus” (give self a hug), “Paul says to pray” (fold hands), “Paul says to sing praises” (pretend to sing), “Paul says tell other about Jesus” (point up), etc. or make up your own actions.

May 13 – Paul and Silas in Prison

Building on Last Week: Whether telling others about Jesus takes us to a prince or a prison, we must be found faithful.

Story Scripture: Acts 16: 19-34

Bible Verse: “Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 4:15

At Home Ideas:
Streamer Shaker
Remember that Paul and Silas sang songs to worship God while they were in prison. Give your child 2 paper plates to decorate with colored markers and stickers. Fill one plate with dried beans and staple the two together. Then take lengths of streamers or crepe paper and tape them to the outer edge of the plates. You have a music maker to praise Jesus with.
