April 1 –The First Palm Sunday

Building on Last Week:
Story Scripture: Matthew 21:2-3, 6-11, 14-16

Bible Verse: “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

At Home Ideas:

Hosanna Snack
Give your child a halved (lengthwise) croissant. Tell them, “Long ago, people would blow trumpets to let everyone know when a kind was coming. Can you pick up your croissant roll to use as a pretend trumpet? They can pretend to blow into their “trumpet”. Who is our King? Let your child put their favorite spread on the croissant when they are done playing.

Musical Parade
Make some simple musical instruments. You can turn dowel sticks or paper towel rolls into rhythm sticks. Fill boxes with beans (and tape closed) for shakers. Tie jingle bells onto clothespins. Have a Hosanna parade. You may want to also provide “palm leaves” that you have made.

March 25–Jesus Tells of God’s Care

Building on Last Week: From going to His disciples at their time of need to reassuring His followers of God’s provision, Jesus shows His love in many ways.

Story Scripture: Matthew 5:1-2, 6:25-34

Bible Verse: “The Lord is my helper.” Hebrews 13:6

At Home Ideas:

Flowers of the Field Snack
On a plate, fan out apple slices in a circle. Place a celery stalk (or large pretzel stick) at the bottom of the circle to look like a stem. You could also use slices of cheese alternated with the apple slices.

March 18 – Jesus Walks on the Water

Building on Last Week: This week we go back to Jesus’ ministry on earth. During this time, He was teaching His disciples about love and showing them that when they are helpless He is there and that only when we recognize our helplessness can we truly come to Him.

Story Scripture: Matthew 14:22-33

Bible Verse: “The Lord is my helper.” Hebrews 13:6

At Home Ideas:

God’s All-Weather Care
An art project will remind children that God cares for them in all kinds of weather. Divide a paper plate into four sections. Draw something in each section to indicate a kind of weather: rain, sunshine, snow, lightning, or storm clouds. Let children be creative. Around the rim print the Bible words, “The Lord is my helper.”

March 11 –Jesus, Friend of Children

Building on Last Week: The sick man was helpless to come to the Lord on his own, as helpless as a child. Only when we come to the Lord as children, recognizing our helplessness without Him, can we be accepted.

Story Scripture: Matthew 19:13-15

Bible Verse: “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

At Home Ideas:

Friendship Crackers
Using cheese spread in a can, draw smiley faces on round crackers.

Friendship Bracelet
Make a simple bracelet to help your child remember that Jesus is their Friend. Buy solid color pony beads and mark letters with a permanent marker or you can buy pre-made alphabet pony beads. You will spell Jesus and your child’s name. You can string these on chenille wire or plastic string. You will want to place some decorative beads on the string, then your child’s name, some more decorative beads, then Jesus and finish with some final decorative beads.
