March 4: Jesus Helps a Sick Man

Building on Last Week: Last unit we learned that the Lord hears and answers our prayers. This unit we’ll learn why –because He loves us.

Story Scripture: Mark 2: 1-5, 10-12

Bible Verse: “The Lord is my helper.” Hebrews 13:6

At Home Ideas:

Get Well Card
Help your child create a homemade card to give to someone they know. Provide several types of materials for your child to choose from. The next time someone they know gets sick they will have a card ready to give them to brighten their day.

February 24/25—We Talk to God

Building on Last Week: Your children will enjoy reviewing the Bible stories about prayer.

Story Scripture:Review of Lessons 9-12

Bible Verse: “The Lord will hear when I call to him.” Psalm 4:3

At Home Ideas:

Tin-Can Telephone
Help your child to make a tin can telephone to show that there are different ways that we can talk to God and to listen to God. Take two empty cans and check for sharp edges. Use a sharp instrument or a nail and hammer to make a hole in the bottom of each can. Connect the cans with a long string. Stretch the cans as far apart as you can and have your child speak into their can while you listen. Then switch and let your child listen.

February 17/18 – Peter’s Friends Pray for Him

Building on Last Week: Unlike Elijah, who prayed expecting God to answer, Peter’s friends seemed surprised that God answered their prayers (Acts 12:15). Thankfully, God is faithful, even when our faith is weak.

Story Scripture:Acts 12:1-17

Bible Verse: “Pray for each other.” James 5:16

At Home Ideas:

Game
Tell your child you’re going to play a game with them but when you ask them to do something they have to do it without asking any questions. For example, “Joey”, please pick up the box on the floor and bring it to me. Thank you." And, so forth.

Your child can ask you to do things too. Try to include some nonsense requests also such as, hopping on one foot, etc. Then explain about how Peter needed to obey God’s messenger without asking any questions because the messenger was from God. And, we always want to obey God without question.

February 10/11 – Elijah Prays for Rain

Building on Last Week: Whether we pray for protection or provision, God is always faithful to answer for our good and His glory.

Story Scripture:1 Kings 17:1; 18:1-2, 41-46; James 5:17-18

Bible Verse: “The Lord will hear when I call to him.” Psalm 4:3

At Home Ideas:

Explore God’s World
Show your child a plant that has been well watered and one that needs to be watered. Show your child how God has provided rain for plants, animals and people and how important it is for us. God knew what he was doing, didn’t he?

Try watering the “sad” plant with your child and show them how it can get “well” with some water.
