February 3/4 – The People Pray for a Safe Journey

Building on Last Week: Whether in a lion’s den or on a long, dangerous journey, God’s people prayed for protection, and God faithfully answered.

Story Scripture:Ezra 7:10-28; 8:15, 21-23, 31-32

Bible Verse: “The Lord will hear when I call to him." Psalm 4:3

At Home Ideas:

Obeying Game
Play “Red Light, Green Light” with your child to emphasize obeying. Ezra learned, obeyed and taught God’s Law. It’s important for us to obey God, too.

January 27/28 – Daniel Prays in the Lion’s Den

Building on Last Week: We will “hear” God speak to us from His Word much better when our prayer life is in order.

Story Scripture:Daniel 6:1-23

Bible Verse: “The Lord will hear when I call to him.” Psalm 4:3

At Home Ideas:

Lion Snack
Roll grain or crispy cereal with peanut butter into balls for the lion’s head and mane. Then, with pretzels, you can make the lion’s body and legs. Add raisins for eyes.

Prayer Clock
Help your child make a prayer reminder clock. Print the clock face numbers on a paper plate. Use 2 brass paper-fasteners to attach a pendulum and hands for the clock. You could even add a jingle bell to the pendulum. You many even want to mark the time of day that you want to pray with your child every day in a different color or use a praying hands sticker to show when it’s time to pray.

January 20/21 –Mary Chooses to Listen to Jesus

Building on Last Week: Elijah stood on the mount to listen to the Lord; Mary sat at His feet. Body position isn’t the issue; willingness to hear and obey is.

Story Scripture:Luke 10:38-42

Bible Verse: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9

At Home Ideas:

Hospitality Lesson
It’s a good thing to keep your home in order so that you may entertain guests. Have your child help you straighten and pick up your home in preparation for guests (or even just mom or dad coming home from work). Get everyone comfortable and then take time to sit and enjoy your company!

January 13/14 –Elijah Hears a Still Small Voice

Building on Last Week: Samuel heard God’s voice in the tabernacle; Elijah heard it in a cave. The place isn’t the issue; willingness to hear and obey is.

Story Scripture:1 Kings 19:1-18

Bible Verse: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9

At Home Ideas:

Let’s Build a Cave
Kids love to make forts so why not make a cave? Drape blankets or sheets over a table or chairs or create a cave out of a large box. Show your child how dark and lonely it can be in a cave. But, God is always there for us to talk to and to listen to.

“Sugar Stalactite”Show your child pictures of caves with stalactites and stalagmites. Then demonstrate how to make a “sugar stalactite”. Dissolve 2 cups of sugar in 1 cup of warm water. Suspend a string in the water by attaching the string to a pencil laid across the top of the container. Wait a few days for the water to evaporate and the crystals to form

January 6/7 –Samuel Hears God’s Voice

Building on Last Week: Moses was a man when he received God’s call; Samuel was a boy. Age isn’t the issue; willingness to hear and obey it.

Bible Verse: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9

At Home Ideas:

“Samuel Says”Play “Samuel Says” (instead of “Simon Says”) with your child. Emphasize how important it is to listen carefully just like Samuel did to God. How can we “listen” to God today?
