December 30/31 –Moses Listens to God

Building on Last Week: God showed His love with a wonderful gift—His Son. When we receive Christ as Savior, we can show our love by listening and obeying.

Story Scripture:Exodus 3:1-6, 10-12

Bible Verse: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9

At Home Ideas:

Wintry Walk
Take a nice winter walk with your child and point out everyday and interesting sounds to your child. Tell them that we can listen to God just like we can listen to the things God has provided, like nature.

December 16/17 – The Wise Men Give Gifts to Jesus

Building on Last Week: Whether shepherds or Magi, anyone who comes to Jesus is truly wise.

Story Scripture:Matthew 2:1-12

Bible Verse: “He loved us and sent his Son.” 1 John 4:10

At Home Ideas:

Gift Giving
Gifts can come in different forms. You can create your own or buy them. They can be material or not. Why not take your child caroling or bake cookies to give away or for your guests? Take your child to purchase a Christmas gift for a needy family. There are many ways to include your younger children in sharing the Good News of Jesus’ birth!

December 9/10: Shepherds Thank God for Baby Jesus

Building on Last Week: The Lamb of God was born. It’s appropriate that shepherds would be the first to hear the news and worship Him.

Scripture: Luke 2:8-20

Bible Verse: “He loved us and sent his Son.”1 John 4:10

At Home Ideas:

Candy Cane
Give your child one red and one white chenille wire. Help them to twist the wires together and bend one end to make a shepherd’s crook (and the letter J).

Once upon a time
A man from New York
Made something special---
A cane (not a fork)!

Show chenille-wire candy cane.

Turn it up like this;
It’s the letter J—look!
Now turn it around
And it’s a shepherd’s crook!

Slip crook around a sheep’s (or some animal) neck to illustrate.

J stands for Jesus,
I’m happy to say,
He came to be our Savior,
Oh, happy, happy day!

December 2/3: God’s Son, Jesus, Is Born

Building on Last Week: The last unit emphasized the importance of thanking God for His good gifts. This unit teaches about the greatest gift of all—His Son!

Story Scripture:Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-7

Bible Verse: “He loved us and sent his Son.” 1 John 4:10

At Home Ideas:

Stable Snack
Help your child build a stable using graham cracker squares, “glued” with icing or leaning against each other. Use animal crackers for the animals. Talk about what a stable is and what it would be like to be inside a stable.
