September 2/3- God Takes Care of Baby Moses

Building on Last Week: The last unit was about God’s people obeying His Word. This unit shows that God takes care of those who are obedient to Him.

Story Scripture: Exodus 1:7-2:10

Bible Verse: “He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

At Home Ideas:

My Family Place Mat
You will need:
construction paper-1 piece/child
Permanent marker
Picture/s of your family or pictures taken of families from magazines
Glue
Clear contact paper
Print “My Family Loves Me” on the construction paper at the top. Cut contact paper into 13”x10” pieces (you will need 2). Let your child color their paper and glue pictures onto the paper. Cover both sides with contact paper.

God Keeps Baby Moses Safe
You will need:
1 small paper plate/child
30” piece of yarn
green tissue paper
wooden clothespin
4” cloth square
crayons, markers
hole punch, scissors

Put green tissue paper through a paper shredder if you have one or cut into thin strips to make grass. Cut the paper plates in half, hold the rims together and use the hole punch to make holes around the rim. (For younger children—you may staple edges together instead.) Give your child the paper plate halves and let them color the outsides brown. Help them line up the holes and sew around the edges with the yarn to make the basket. Let them drizzle glue on the insides of the basket and stuff them with shredded green tissue paper. Use a fine-tip marker to draw a simple face on the head of the clothespin. Wrap the clothespin in the cloth square and glue the ends together. Then place “baby Moses” in his basket.

August 26/27—Obeying God’s Word

Building on Last Week: This will be a great opportunity to help your children remember how Samuel, Abigail, David and Nehemiah obeyed God.

Story Scripture: Review of Lessons 9-12

Bible Verse: “We must obey God.” Acts 5:29

At Home Ideas:

Plant Seeds of Kindness
Make a plant marker to help your child remember kindness.
You will need a large craft stick, green and red craft foam sheets, 2 thin black wires and a permanent marker.

Cut out a leaf shape from the green foam and an oval from the red foam to look like a ladybug. Glue the leaf onto your craft stick. Then decorate your ladybug using the marker by putting dots on the bug and a head. Attach the wires for antennae, and then glue your ladybug onto the leaf. Write on the leaf “Plant seeds of kindness”. Place in a planter for your child to enjoy.

Music Time
Sing some of your child’s favorite songs. This too is a wonderful way to praise and worship God! Music is a good way for your child to remember stories they’ve heard from the Bible.

August 19/20 – God’s People Work Together

Building on Last Week: Keeping the peace is an essential part of any cooperative effort. How can we expect to work together in the ministry of Christ if we can’t learn to get along?

Story Scripture: Nehemiah 1:1-4,11; 2:11-18; 4:15-21; 6:15-16

Bible Verse: “We must obey God.” Acts 5:29

At Home Ideas:

Make a “Wall”
Mount a large piece of paper horizontally on your wall at home at your child’s eye level. Outline a pattern of bricks on the paper. Then your family can all help to color the “wall” together. The work goes much quicker when everyone helps, doesn’t it? That’s the way it is with everything. We can all get things done quicker if we help each other.

August 12/13 – King David is Kind to a Lame Man

Building on Last Week: What David learned about kindness from such people as Abigail was aptly applied in the life of Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth.

Story Scripture: 2 Samuel 4:4; 9:1-13

Bible Verse: “We must obey God.” Acts 5:29

At Home Ideas:

Visit a Nursing Home
One way a child can see what it’s like to be kind to someone who has special needs (such as in a wheelchair) is to visit someone elderly. They often can’t get around as well as the young and use canes or walkers or wheelchairs. Help your child see that they are no different than us and there are many ways to be kind to them.

Three-Legged Race
Play games with your child that may give them some idea of what it may be like to be disabled in some way. A three-legged race simulates being lame, blindfolding is as being blind, etc.
When someone helps you while you are “disabled” they are being kind. We must obey God and be kind to everyone.

August 5/6 – Abigail Keeps Peace

Building on Last Week: Samuel learned that judging from outer appearances can be deceiving. We don’t know what Abigail looked like, but we see from this account in Scripture that her inner beauty overflowed with boldness, godliness, and wisdom.

Story Scripture: 1 Samuel 25:1-35

Bible Verse: “We must obey God.” Acts 5:29

At Home Ideas:

Bible-Time Foods
Make a snack to share with your child and some friends. Use foods like raisins, figs, juice and matzo crackers. Talk to the children about how God wants us to share and that it is good to share.

Talk About Peace
Use dolls to show instances when one member of a family may be a peacemaker. Suggest possible arguments and ways to keep peace. Example: What happens when both dolls want the same chair? Or the same toy? Etc. How can the problem be solved? How do you feel when you’ve argued with someone? We obey God when we choose not to argue.
