May 6/7 – Abraham is Kind to Visitors

Building on Last Week: Abraham’s kindness wasn’t extended only to family members. Family, friends, and strangers were recipients of his kind hospitality.

Story Scripture: Genesis 18:1-16

Bible Verse: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32

At Home Ideas:

Play Food
Here’s a recipe for homemade modeling dough. Once made, your child and you can make pretend food to serve to “guests” to practice kindness and hospitality.

Recipe:
1 c. flour 2 t. cream of tartar
1 c. water ½ c. salt
1 T. cooking oil food coloring

In a heavy saucepan, mix the dry ingredients. Add oil, water, and food coloring. Cook three minutes, or until mixture pulls away from sides of pan. (You may add a few drops of oil of wintergreen, cloves, or cinnamon to give a more pleasant aroma.) Knead slightly almost immediately. Store in an airtight container. This dough will keep several months. It has a pleasing texture.

Company’s Coming!
Help your child understand how important it is to show hospitality and kindness to visitors in your home. When you have guests coming, have your child help you prepare your home by doing simple chores. They could also help prepare a simple snack. If there are children coming that your child can play with this is a good time to discuss sharing and being kind before they arrive. Remember to keep it simple and fun for your child so they see the enjoyment of offering hospitality.
