May 6/7 – Abraham is Kind to Visitors

Building on Last Week: Abraham’s kindness wasn’t extended only to family members. Family, friends, and strangers were recipients of his kind hospitality.

Story Scripture: Genesis 18:1-16

Bible Verse: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32

At Home Ideas:

Play Food
Here’s a recipe for homemade modeling dough. Once made, your child and you can make pretend food to serve to “guests” to practice kindness and hospitality.

Recipe:
1 c. flour 2 t. cream of tartar
1 c. water ½ c. salt
1 T. cooking oil food coloring

In a heavy saucepan, mix the dry ingredients. Add oil, water, and food coloring. Cook three minutes, or until mixture pulls away from sides of pan. (You may add a few drops of oil of wintergreen, cloves, or cinnamon to give a more pleasant aroma.) Knead slightly almost immediately. Store in an airtight container. This dough will keep several months. It has a pleasing texture.

Company’s Coming!
Help your child understand how important it is to show hospitality and kindness to visitors in your home. When you have guests coming, have your child help you prepare your home by doing simple chores. They could also help prepare a simple snack. If there are children coming that your child can play with this is a good time to discuss sharing and being kind before they arrive. Remember to keep it simple and fun for your child so they see the enjoyment of offering hospitality.

April 29/30 – Abraham is Kind to Lot

Building on Last Week: Our love for our living, ascended Lord compels us to show love and kindness to others.

Story Scripture: Genesis 13:2, 5-12

Bible Verse: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32

At Home Ideas:

Does it Belong?
Give your child a bag full of different items. Help your child sort items by similarities. Let your child tell you why they are sorting things the way they are. Explain the story to your child. Abraham and Lot had to divide the items, too. You could also let your child divide a snack for two (or more) kids and help them decide the best (and kindest) way to do that.

Flower Kindness Poster
Make a kindness poster using pictures that show people doing kind acts. Make construction paper flowers first. On the back of each one, place a kindness picture. Then on a large piece of paper tape each daisy so that when the flower is lifted (like a peek-a-boo) the picture is upright. Let your child explain each picture and what the kindness is in it.

April 22/23 –Jesus Goes Back to Heaven

Building on Last Week: Jesus lives, and He is now at the right hand of the Father, preparing a place and interceding for us.

Story Scripture: Matthew 16:26-17:8; 21:7-11; Mark 16:1-7; Acts 1:3-4, 6-12

Bible Verse: “He is not here, he has risen!” Luke 24:6

At Home Ideas:

I Love Jesus Book
You can make a book by using construction paper and pictures from old Christmas and Easter cards and nature magazines. As you child suggests reasons they love Jesus, prepare one page for each reason. For instance, write, “He loves children” on a sheet of paper then glue on a picture of Jesus and the children. Punch holes and tie the pages together with yarn.

Home
To explain “home” and “going home” you may want to try this project. Show pictures of different animals and the type of home they live in. Help your child name the animal and the name of the type of home it lives in. End with pictures of Jesus in heaven—this is where all followers “go home”.

April 15/16 –Jesus Dies and Lives Again!

Building on Last Week: We call Christ’s ride into Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday the Triumphal Entry. However, for people facing death every day, there is no greater triumph than Christ’s victory over the grave on our behalf.

Story Scripture: Mark 14:43,53; 15:25,37,46; 16:1-7

Bible Verse: “He is not here; he has risen!” Luke 24:6

At Home Ideas:

Resurrection Cookies
You can find many recipes online for these “He is Risen” reminder cookies to make with your child.

Easter Cards
Help your child create Easter cards for some of the important people in their life. And, then hand- deliver them if possible or place in the mail.

April 8/9 –The Children Praise Jesus

Building on Last Week: Whether from our pocketbooks or from our mouths, praise that comes from a heart of love for the Lord is well received by Him.

Story Scripture: Matthew 21:7-11, 14-16

Bible Verse: “I love the Lord.” Psalm 116:1

At Home Ideas:

Homemade Shaker
Take two paper plates and let your child decorate the outside of them however they wish—but you may want to suggest palm branches! Then place some dried beans inside one plate and staple the other plate on top—stapling close together so the beans don’t fall out. (You could also attach ribbon streamers to the plate when it’s finished.) Tell the story to your child and have them shake their shaker in a joyful noise to the Lord!

Flower Bouquet
Help your child make a bouquet of flowers to brighten someone’s day! Use construction paper, chenille wires, a clay pot, etc to create a colorful and lasting flower pot to give away to someone you know who needs to see and feel God’s love!
