March 25/26 – Jesus, God’s Wonderful Son, Transfigured
Building on Last Week: Last unit emphasized the importance of worshiping God. These next few lessons look at how Jesus was worshiped because He is God’s Son.
Story Scripture: Matthew 17:1-8
Bible Verse: “Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 4:15
At Home Ideas:
Shining Cloud
This craft will help your child understand how bright the cloud was on top of the mountain and how brightly Jesus shone on that day. Give your child a piece of white paper they can color. Have bright colored chalk or paints and brushes. Ask your child what colors they would use if they were going to draw a picture of what Peter, James and John saw on the mountain. Help them think of the brightest colors and encourage them to put streaks of “glory” on their paper. Then talk about how none of these colors is as bright as the light that God sent on the mountain. No one could ever paint such brightness as Jesus had then.
How Big is a Mountain?
It can be very difficult for a child to understand how big a mountain really is. If you have the ability, try taking your child on an uphill hike and see how quickly they get tired. Let them know that Jesus and Peter, James and John climbed a mountain too. If you don’t have the chance to go outside you can build a pretend mountain at home. Use blocks or cartons or whatever you have available to create a mountain. Cover it with a blanket. Then place small action dolls, animals, etc. at the base of the mountain and look at the difference in size. How long would it take to climb that mountain? Would it be hard?
