March 4/5- David Refuses to Hurt Saul

Building on Last Week: The last unit emphasized how we worship God. We learned that we can worship by giving our money, our time and by obeying God.

Story Scripture: 1 Samuel 24:2-11, 16-19,22

Bible Verse: “The Lord is my strength.” Psalm 28:7

At Home Ideas:

How Strong?
Help your child understand that they can grow strong physically and spiritually. Practice some physical activities that show how strong your child has become. Then talk about this story and how strong spiritually David was inside in order to do the right thing.

Mommy (Daddy) Says:
Play a version of “Simon Says” using mommy or daddy. This will help reinforce with your child how they can be “strong” and obey your instructions.

Craft Time:
Reinforce the Bible verse! You will need a paper plate and some stickers/stamps, etc., and a pen/marker. Write the Bible verse and reference on the paper plate for your child and let them decorate as they wish. You could tie a piece of yarn to the plate and hang it where your child can see it everyday.

February 25/26 – God's People Praise Him—The Ark is Returned to Israel

Building on Last Week: Praise for God can come in many forms. Giving to God is one way to praise Him. Joyful singing that glorifies Him is another.

Story Scripture: 2 Samuel 6:12-19; 1 Chronicles 15-16

Bible Verse: "Worship the Lord." Psalm 96:9

At Home Ideas

Let's Have a Parade!
Give (or make) some musical instruments to your child. Have fun playing some music and marching around in a parade to praise God.

Playback
Your child would find it great fun to hear themselves on tape! Make recordings of your child praising God in song and music and play it back for them to hear.

February 18/19 – A Poor Widow's Gift

Building on Last Week: Hannah loved God and gave up her firstborn, Samuel, for God's service. The poor widow loved God and gave up all the money she had for God's house. Is there a link between love and giving? Just read John 3:16.

Story Scripture: Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4

Bible Verse: "Worship the Lord." Psalm 96:9

At Home Ideas

Offering Bank
You could help your child begin to understand how giving money to church is another way of worshipping God. Help your child make their very own offering bank. You could use and empty can or a box or whatever you have on hand. Let your child decorate it as they wish. Then help your child decide how much offering to bring to church every Sunday. Remember, it's not how much you give but what sacrifice you're making to give it. For a child this age, it may mean the difference between some candy and giving to God. For them, that is a sacrifice.

Simple Tune
Sing to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell".

We like to give to God.
We like to give to God.
We give because we love Him so.
We like to give to God.
