Socks for Tots

Socks for Tots is a sock drive in cooperation with Crossfire Ministries, LifeNetwork, and the Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center to benefit young children. The kids in our 2-year old class are starting to learn how God loves people and how He wants us to do the same.

]]> This is an opportunity for them to give a gift that they understand. Classes will wrap the socks before they are donated to the partner ministries. Drop off NEW socks (infant/toddler, all sizes) at the Nursery or in the collection bin in the upper hallway through February.

Preschool Food Drive

Did you know that right after Christmas, food donations generally decline? Let's help build up those food stores for the needy in our own community! We invite anyone from PRC to help us reach those in need.

]]> The Preschool will be collecting non-perishable food donations and toiletry items to benefit Northern Churches Care during the month of February. NCC helps many people each month with rent, utilities, emergency food, clothing, etc. A collection box at the east upstairs entrance will be available to drop off your donations.

Did you know Compassion International headquarters is in Colorado Springs? One way to learn more about Compassion is to take a building tour. The 1-hour tours are offered Mon. - Fri. at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A tour especially for children is also available (call ahead at 487-7000).

Here Comes Captain Ordinary!

In January, we’re doing a unit with a missions emphasis called Captain Ordinary. It’s the life stories of missionaries, past and present, emphasizing that they were/are ordinary people whom God used to do extraordinary things.

]]> We are using 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 is the basis, which says: "Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; He made us pure and holy, and He freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, ‘If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.’"

So look for Captain Ordinary in Kids Clubhouse starting January 6!

More than just diapers and toys

The Nursery touches lives for eternity and plants the seeds of faith. We want the blessing and love of God to be a reality for all those involved in our ministry. How do we do this?

]]> In her book Playtime Devotions, Christine Tangvald writes, “It’s never too early to begin passing on your faith to your child. Your baby can learn.”

Take advantage of this key learning time by talking, praising, and praying with your child. Studies have found that speaking to your baby may help in brain development and as you talk to her, you can teach her about God.

As babies grow to toddlers, they can instinctively weave music and songs into their play, so sing to and with your child and play musical instruments with them like tamborines and drums. This is a great way to praise God with your baby.

Finally, when you are cuddling up with your baby, pray for him or her. It can be a good excuse to thank God for your child. It’s easy and fun to share God’s truth with your baby. She may not totally understand what you’re doing, but she will know she’s loved by you and God.

Thanksgiving Sunday, the kids took a tip from teachers to count all the things they were thankful for. Before anyone knew it, it became a contest to see how many different things for which they were thankful. The 9:00 kids came up with an impressive 495 blessings and the 10:45 group thought up 860 blessings! Kudos to the teachers for counting them! Here is a sampling of what the kids were thankful for:

Kids Cluhouse happenings

The Puppeteers will be performing during Kids Clubhouse with their special Christmas presentation on December 16. You don't want to miss it.

Preschool Giving Projects

Parents, be on the lookout for little white giving bags next Sunday to be going home with your child. They are called Christmas Kindness Kits, and you and your child may fill them with whatever you think would give joy to a friend, neighbor, relative, teacher or whoever you think could use some extra joy this season. Whether it is food, a homemade gift, or a gift card, your gift can be a special way to teach your child how wonderful it is to give to others.

Thanks to all the preschoolers and their families who contributed to the offering over the last year! We collected just over $212 and were able to put together 50 Kid Care packets for Northern Churches Care! They have been delivered and are being happily used by grateful kids.
