New members of the Children’s Ministry Team

Jeanne Snow, a valuable member of the Children’s Ministry Team, is stepping down and her shoes were so big, two people were needed to replace her.

Ericka Meyer is the new Kid’s Clubhouse Small Group Ministry Leader. She also serves as the AWANA secretary, so she is not new to the Children’s Ministry Team. She and her husband, Jimmy, have two boys. She has already proven she is reliable, pays attention to detail, and has great relational skills. She will be an excellent leader and she and Sandy will make a great team!

Shelley Lugauer is the new Children’s Ministry Communications Director. She will be creating eKidz every month and will ensure that Children’s Ministry information is correct both on the web and in print. Shelley and her husband, Paul, have two children. They are active in the Ascent community, and Shelley does the Ascent newsletter. She also has a dramatic side, which she feeds by helping with the drama team in the Tribe. She is a welcome addition to Children’s Ministry.

The AWANA Adopt-A-Club Program

Our AWANA club has “adopted” an AWANA club in the Philippines. This club needs our support in order to provide books, uniforms and Christian instruction to needy children. During the month of March, the children will have the opportunity to help support this club by giving financially to the Adopt-a-Club Fund. Clubbers can also donate their own AWANA shares toward Adopt-a-club. Our club will match their AWANA dollars with actual cash

As a small incentive and a little fun, we will provide several bags of candy/small toys that children can win by contributing. Each time a child places a dollar in the Adopt-a-Club basket, he or she can fill out a slip to be placed in a raffle for the bags of toys/candy. Every child who donates $5 or more will receive a special patch.

Our goal is $300 to fulfill our part of supporting this AWANA club. We can do it! If we receive more, we will send the additional money to the club to help with any special needs they have.

Encourage your child to help other children learn about the love of Christ through giving to Adopt-a-Club.

Clubhouse happenings

The 5th Dimension families took a vote on when they wanted to hold their class on Sunday mornings and they chose 9:00 a.m.

Coming soon: Graduation on May 13. Also, check out the new unit on Parables of Jesus for the Kid's Clubhouse here.

New staff openings

All the ministry leaders are pleased to report that every area of the Children’s Ministry program has done very well in the new transition from Saturday night to Sunday services. As a matter of fact, we have seen 14 new families register their children into the Sunday School programs.

However, in several areas there is a need for more paid staff. Specifically, the nursery staff is looking for two 10:45 a.m. service teachers and the Preschool department needs staff for both services plus those willing to be substitutes.

All areas could use more volunteers, especially teens in the Clubhouse programs. Interested? Contact Mary Pollard (nursery), Kathy Egeler (preschool) or Sandy Ramsey (clubhouse).

Preschool parents’ opinions matter!

Do you ever have an idea for improvement in your child’s Preschool classroom but do not have time to discuss it? New slotted boxes will soon be the answer. Each counter of the Preschool classrooms will be equipped with parent suggestion cards and special locked boxes to insert them.

The Preschool Leadership Team wants you to let them know what they’re doing right and what they can work on. Give them your ideas, observations, thoughts and suggestions. All they ask is that the parents leave their name and phone number or email address so that the issue can be discussed at a time when both sides can give the matter the time it deserves.

And in the spirit of the Parent-Driven Approach, the forms will also ask you if you are willing to help out in some way if a solution is needed. So look for those suggestion boxes in your child’s classroom in the coming weeks.

Nursery shares their socks

The Socks for Tots program was extremely successful. We collected 173 socks for needy children. Thank you to all who donated and to the Tuesday morning preschoolers who lovingly wrapped each package!
