What is worship?

by Mark Tuggle

I had a great discussion with folks at my table at the most recent Family Meal & Meeting on the role of a worship service. One thing we all agreed on is that we, ourselves, can sometimes be the biggest obstacle to meeting God during corporate worship. If I’m distracted, angry, or anxious when I walk into the worship service, it may be impossible for me to connect with God regardless of the songs, message, style, etc.

That was a good reminder for each of us to take time to examine ourselves prior to the corporate worship time. We each have a responsibility to be prepared to meet God. Maybe that means a time of confession or a few moments of silence or prayer before the service even begins. When our hearts and minds are set on worshipping God, I think we stand a lot better chance of meeting Him, blessing Him, and being blessed by Him.
